Moisés Yagües

Moisés Yagües, born in Murcia, Spain in 1972, is a self-taught artist whose creative journey spans painting, printmaking, and film. As one of the resident artists at La Persiana Naranja, a buzzing art and studio space in Murcia, Yagües has built a reputation as a master printer, showcasing his work across Europe and beyond. His latest works delve into pressing social issues, most notably immigration, and challenge the arbitrary nature of borders through his unique lens.

Yagües' art invites viewers into the whimsical worlds that exist inside the human mind and body—places where stories unfold and ideas come to life in literal and imaginative ways. His cartoon-like characters, full of energy, humor, and tenderness, have won hearts around the globe, with exhibitions in Germany, Mexico, Chile, China, the U.S., and Japan, among others.

In his Parallel Universes series, Yagües cleverly reimagines iconic works by masters like Mark Rothko and Pierre Mondrian, where his signature "helpers" take over the canvas with ladders, scaffolding, rollers, and paint buckets, adding their playful touch to the masterpieces. These same tiny, industrious figures also appear arranging a game of Tetris, bringing order and structure to the chaos.

Influenced by comics, illustration, pop art, and street art, Yagües crafts surreal scenes with simple, schematic characters. His fresh, carefree style and deeply personal universe combine well-established iconography with a clear passion for storytelling. This love of narrative extends into his work as an illustrator, with several books for both children and adults under his belt.

Yagües’ talent has earned him numerous awards and scholarships, including recognition from Casa Falconieri in Italy and the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation in Mallorca. His artistic residencies in China, Romania, Slovenia, Italy, and Germany have further expanded his creative horizons, solidifying his place in the international art scene.
